Furniture Woes, or A Call For Help

We have inherited some new furniture and need to use them in the boys room. Besides this chest of drawers and dresser w/ mirror, there are 2 matching nightstands. If we had girls I'd use them as they are. But they sure don't seem very boyish to me and I'm looking for a solution, hopefully without involving too much money, time, or effort - although I'm willing to put in a little of each. Please help!

you need new handles definitely. maybe you could even leave the color how it is on the chest and get some coordinating fun, boyish handles.

i don't know, maybe you'd need to repaint or refinish them anyway. sand off the scallops?

good luck. make sure you post the finished project!

are you sure you don't want to use those yourself and let the boys have your stuff. i seem to remember your master bedroom set being less curlique.

I am thinking of painting bright vertical stripes. should i stick with the lines of the breakfront, or offset to detract from the girliness? Would love to replace the front feet, but more work than i'm interested in.

I think if you get new handles like Marcy said and paint it differently, it can easily pass as more boyish. I wouldn't worry about the feet.

I'm in love! I hope I can find something just like it for my girls in VA. I wish I were there to buy them from you so that you could buy the boy furniture you need! Maybe you could haul them up here when you come in July? Just wishful thinking!

I'm honestly not seeing the stripes, but I think a dark stain or paint with new hardware will help. Good luck!

On second thought, if you don't have any attachment to these pieces, you might consider selling them on eBay or craigslist. You may be able to get enough for them to buy something closer to what you want -- and avoid the work altogether.

forget changing the furniture - let the boys' hair grow out and make them look more girly to match the furniture!
